A Trek With Our Dog!

Our house lies in the shade of a small hill with a thick forest of western Ghats. I have heard a lot about this forest from my parents and grandparents. I often hear the songs of the unique birds which come from the forest. Sometimes I also see and hear some animals like deer, wild-boar, porcupine and many more. In summer we hear the roar of tigers from the hill. This hill divides our place [Melinkoppa,  Shimoga] from another village ‘Garaga’.

We had planned a trek in this forest on 25th of December. It was a group of 25 members, plus one, our dog ‘Sunny’. I will give a brief introduction about him. We have 6 dogs in our house, Sunny is one of the friendliest of them. He followed us to and fro Melinkoppa. We tried a lot to stop him from following us but it was of vain. Everyone pampered Sunny a bit too much. I hope he had a good time and there is no doubt in my enjoyment too.

This forest is full of steep slopes, tall and big trees, birds and many plants. As always , I had carried sunglass and cap but it was safe in my bag because sunlight  hardly reached the ground and it was so cool that I felt like sleeping there. Don’t  think it was difficult, but we faced difficulties in stepping down the slopes and some of us had a fall too. We sat down in between for refreshments and to rest. We played games while walking. We also celebrated the birth day of a 6 year old boy named ‘Yuva’.

I enjoyed peaceful green nature very much. Though I live very near to forest, it was totally a different experience for me spending  in the forest . While going Sunny followed us but coming back home he led us.  I know that it was not new for Sunny and my father because they have been in this forest many times before.
